A Merry Cairo Christmas!

A Merry Cairo Christmas

We had some great events at the chapel in December.

We had Ray leading The Christmas Story, with lots of participation by members of the congregation. This also marked the unveiling of our 12ft Christmas tree outside the Chapel and the newly repainted and restored statues in our crib. Lesley then led our Candlelit Service with lots of carols and lots of candles. A lovely start to all our Christmas festivities.

It is often said that Services at Cairo Street are varied, special and memorable and Ray’s Service in December confirmed that. I even had to jump out of the organ booth to represent the three Kings and tell their story. This Service was special in another way. The statues in the crib had been restored and repainted and were on display for the first time in their new livery.

We also welcomed Ian Garmston back to Cairo Street with his lovely wife Anne to see how the Crib had been restored. Ian’s father, Seth, had constructed the Crib in 1955 and provided the statues, in memory of Ian’s baby brother, Stewart. The day was full of stories and carols and Ian sang some Christmas songs on his guitar as part of the Service.
