Chair's Report

5 Sep 2023

We have now been waiting quite a while for some sunshine, while the South of

Europe was sweltering away and some awful tragedies with wildfires occurred.

We really all have to face up now to take some responsibility to enjoy our lovely

earth and make some sacrifices not to destroy it. We do try in our small ways in

the chapel. The gardens are in full bloom with some large dahlia beds planted,

which we can always enjoy on the altar.

One of our oldest members of the chapel, Audrey Mellor, has sadly died at the

age of 94 years, with her son and family having looked after her. She was a life-

long member of our congregation, as have her parents, and she must have seen

a lot of events and changes in our chapel over the years. The funeral service in

Walton Lea was held by our Lesley, as was a memorial service the following

Sunday, attended by Audrey's son and family, followed by her internment,

where she is now back home with us again.

On a positive note, our Tea and Toast mornings are still going well and more

and more people are coming for a chat and a cuppa and enjoy our lovely chap-

el.

The Open Day for the public to see our gardens and find out more about the

chapel’s history was attended by a large number of people who really enjoyed

finding out more about the building and its history. ‘We always walked past and

never looked inside’, as most of them quoted.

Heritage Day is soon to follow on the 9th and 10th September, where we hope to

welcome more interested people.

A great joy was for us to welcome back our previous minister Bob Janis, who

had a quick stop over on his trip to Europe to meet with us. He is now a minis-

ter in Hartford USA and we still miss him a lot.

With best wishes to everyone,

Friede
